Water Mitigation Technician
Technicians are the first people a property owner sees after a water loss. You will extract water, set and monitor drying equipment, map moisture, and record the readings and photos that support the insurance claim.
About the role
What the work looks like
Our technicians respond to burst pipes, appliance failures, flooded basements, sewage backups, and storm losses across the Kansas City metro and the surrounding Kansas and Missouri communities. Most days include a mix of new emergency calls and daily monitoring visits on active drying jobs.
The work is physical and the hours follow the weather and the plumbing, not the clock. In return, you work on a small team led by owners with more than 25 years each in property claims, where good documentation is taught, expected, and recognized.
Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency water losses, including nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating on-call schedule
- Extract standing water with truck-mounted and portable extraction units
- Set air movers, dehumidifiers, and air scrubbers according to the drying plan
- Take and log moisture readings, psychrometric readings, and photos on every visit
- Perform controlled demolition: flood cuts, baseboard removal, carpet and pad removal
- Set up containment and follow PPE procedures on Category 2 and 3 water losses
- Explain the process to property owners and tenants in plain language
- Clean, maintain, and track equipment between jobs
Requirements
- Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in crawlspaces and attics
- Availability for on-call shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Reliable, on time, and comfortable working inside occupied homes and businesses
- Smartphone for job photos, readings, and communication
- Willingness to complete a background check
Preferred qualifications
- IICRC WRT (Water Damage Restoration Technician) certification
- IICRC ASD (Applied Structural Drying) or AMRT (Applied Microbial Remediation Technician)
- Prior restoration, construction, plumbing, or flooring experience
- Insurance claims or adjusting background, or experience working alongside adjusters
- Experience with moisture meters, thermal imaging, or drying documentation apps
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction card
Insurance background is a plus
Our owners each have more than 25 years in property insurance claims. If you have worked as an adjuster, a claims desk reviewer, or alongside carriers and third-party administrators, say so on your application. That experience shows up in better job files and fewer disputes, and we value it.
