Structural Drying & Dehumidification in Kansas City

Extraction removes the water you can see. Structural drying removes the moisture you cannot: the water soaked into framing, drywall, subfloor, trim, and insulation. We dry by measurement, not by guesswork.

Air movers and dehumidifiers set for structural drying in a water damaged room

Dry to standard, not just dry to the touch

Drywall can feel dry on the surface while the bottom plate behind it is still saturated. Hardwood can look fine for a week and then cup. Structural drying follows the IICRC S500 standard: we measure the moisture content of affected materials, compare it to unaffected materials in the same building, and keep drying until the two match.

Our drying plans are built for the actual building. We calculate air movement and dehumidification for the affected area, use containment when it speeds drying, and adjust the equipment as readings change each day.

How our structural drying works

  • Moisture mapping of walls, floors, and ceilings
  • Air movers placed to create evaporation at wet surfaces
  • Commercial LGR dehumidifiers sized to the space
  • Containment to focus drying where it is needed
  • Wall cavity drying through controlled openings when needed
  • Daily moisture and humidity readings
  • Equipment adjusted as materials dry
  • Drying logs that support your insurance claim

Materials we dry in place when possible

Drywall and plaster

Many walls can be dried in place with targeted airflow, avoiding unnecessary tear-out.

Hardwood floors

Hardwood is monitored closely and dried with targeted airflow. Fast drying gives it the best chance of being saved.

Subfloor and framing

Wet wood framing and subfloor are dried and verified with penetrating meter readings.

Concrete slabs

Basement and slab floors hold moisture longer and need longer, monitored drying.

Cabinets and toe kicks

Kitchen and bath cabinets are opened and ventilated to reach trapped water.

Crawlspaces

Crawlspace moisture affects the whole house and is dried with containment and dehumidification.

Structural Drying questions

Most residential water losses reach dry standard in about three to five days. Dense materials like hardwood, plaster, and concrete can take longer. Equipment comes out when readings say the materials are dry, not on a fixed schedule.

Air movers and dehumidifiers have to run continuously to dry the structure. Turning them off overnight slows drying and can lead to odor or microbial growth. If the noise is a problem, tell us and we will look at placement.

A rental unit can help with a small, clean water spill. A full water loss needs dehumidification and airflow sized to the space, plus daily moisture readings to confirm the structure is actually dry. Without readings, there is no way to know when it is safe to rebuild.

Not always. We dry in place whenever the materials and water category allow it. Removal is recommended when materials are contaminated, delaminated, or cannot be dried, and we document the reason.
